Join the Senior Life Transition Alliance: Let's Build a Better Safety Net for Older Adults

by Janée Krauth

If you have spent your career serving seniors in the Greater Hickory–Charlotte region, you’ve likely seen it happen more times than you can count. A client you’ve worked with for years: someone who has navigated decades of life with grace: suddenly hits a tipping point.

Perhaps it’s a health scare, the loss of a spouse, or simply the realization that the sprawling family home they’ve loved since the 1980s is now an unmanageable burden. In these moments, families often find themselves in a whirlwind of reactive decision-making. They are trying to coordinate legal advice, medical needs, financial adjustments, and a massive physical move all at once.

As professionals, we often see these families falling through the cracks. Why? Because while we are all experts in our individual silos: whether that’s law, finance, healthcare, or real estate: there is rarely a "connective tissue" between us. The financial advisor doesn't always know the estate sale specialist; the home-health provider may not have a relationship with a move manager.

This is exactly why I built the Senior Life Transition Alliance.

The Problem: A Fragmented Journey

When families are considering moving or transitioning to a more supportive living environment within our community, they aren't just looking for a service. They are looking for a path.

Currently, that path is often obstructed by a lack of coordination. A senior might sell their home before they have a clear financial plan for the proceeds, or an attorney might draft a magnificent estate plan that doesn't account for the physical logistics of a downsize. These gaps create stress, unnecessary expense, and emotional exhaustion for the very people we aim to protect.

I’m Janée Krauth, an Executive Broker at Realty Executives of Hickory. With my SRES® (Senior Real Estate Specialist) and CRTS® (Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist) credentials, I’ve dedicated my practice to helping older adults navigate these major life shifts. But I realized very quickly that a move later in life is never just about real estate. It’s about a complex web of interconnected life decisions.

The Solution: A Collaborative Safety Net

The Senior Life Transition Alliance is a collaborative network of professionals across Western North Carolina who are committed to a "client-first, no-pressure" philosophy. Our goal is to slow the process down, allowing families to connect with the right resources before decisions become reactive.

We are building a community where professionals don't just refer: they collaborate. Imagine a scenario where a client’s transition is supported by a team that is already in sync. Where the transition from a long-time residence to a smaller home or a senior-living community is handled with a seamless handoff between the realtor, the move manager, and the financial trust officer.

Who We Are Looking For

We are currently inviting aligned professionals in the Greater Hickory and Charlotte areas to join us. We are looking for experts who value patience and empathy as much as they value their professional expertise.

Our alliance is designed for:

  • Financial Advisors & CPAs who want to ensure their clients' housing decisions align with their long-term wealth strategy.
  • Estate-Planning Attorneys & Trust Officers who need trusted partners to execute the physical and logistical side of an estate plan.
  • Senior-Living Communities & Home-Health Providers looking for a more holistic way to support incoming or current residents.
  • Professional Organizers, Move Managers, & Estate-Sale Specialists who are the "boots on the ground" for the physical transition.
  • Contractors & Home Inspectors who specialize in aging-in-place modifications or preparing a family home for sale.
