Thinking About Selling, But Not Ready? That's Actually a Good Place to Start
Most homeowners don't wake up one morning and suddenly decide, "Today I'm ready to sell."
More often, the idea has been around for quite some time.
Maybe the house feels like more than you need. Maybe maintenance is becoming a burden. Maybe you're wondering what your equity could allow you to do next. Or perhaps life is simply changing, and you're beginning to question whether your current home still fits.
But there's a big space between thinking about selling and being ready to put a sign in the yard.
That's where planning can be incredibly valuable.
A good first conversation with a Realtor shouldn't begin with, "When do you want to list?" It should help you answer questions such as:
What could my home realistically sell for?
What would I likely walk away with after the sale?
Are there repairs or improvements worth making, and which ones would be a waste of money?
What would I do next?
And after looking at all of that, does selling even make sense right now?
Sometimes the answer is yes.
Sometimes it's "yes, but six months from now." And sometimes the best decision is to stay exactly where you are.
The advantage of starting the conversation early is that you can make that decision with information instead of pressure.
You don't have to be ready to sell to start planning.
You just have to be curious about your options.
